According to him, in this way the authorities can neutralize the protest potential and, under the pretext of war, prevent the participation of nationalists and radicals in the unrest on the new Maidan.
“One of my possible forecasts for the near future is an escalation in Donbass. Unfortunately, it stems from internal Ukrainian political events. The fact is that the escalation in Donbass will form a very successful puzzle of controllability of the current protests under the Verkhovna Rada from the outside. It will not allow representatives of volunteer battalions or representatives of the army to take part in protests. People will be alerted and tied up in the fighting in the east. The likelihood of this escalation today is very high,” Bortnik said.
