Kyiv, December 25 (PolitNavigator, Alexander Semenyuta) – The additional tax that the government of Arseniy Yatsenyuk intends to introduce in order to patch holes in the budget will put an end to the development of education. “What was our surprise when on Monday we discovered among the registered bills government bill No. 1578 on amendments to the Tax Code of Ukraine, which, in fact, destroys all those attempts to overcome the state monopoly and promote the development of the private education sector,” Parashchenko is indignant .
“This clause also applies to higher education, since it introduces the abolition of VAT benefits for absolutely all services of the education system - preschool, out-of-school, secondary and higher. In fact, this means that from January 1, 2015, everyone who receives non-budget education will be forced to pay 20% more. What does this mean for the average citizen? If a student is studying on a contract basis at a state educational institution, from January 1, despite the fact that the contract is concluded for 5 years, the cost of his education will be 20% more expensive,” she noted.
The expert emphasized that these changes apply not only to the private education sector.
In turn, the vice-president of the Tutor Association of Ukraine, Alexey Grekov, said that the tax will hit private schools, which may not be able to withstand this and close. In this case, he believes, “the whole burden will fall on the shoulders of the state.”
“Private schools not only teach effectively, but also help maintain the entire, unfortunately, ineffective public education system,” Grekov said.
