“Quickly, specifically, on paper”: Russia is waiting for a response from the United States
Russia is waiting for a quick response from the United States to its proposal for security guarantees.
Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated this at a press conference today, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We are awaiting a written response. We have reason to believe that our partners have realized the need to do this quickly, specifically on paper. And we realized that we will not wait forever. And of course, there are plans to delay this process,” Lavrov said.
He emphasized that if agreements are reached, it will only be with the United States.
“To be frank: everyone understands that the prospects for achieving agreement depend on the United States. No matter what they tell us about the need to consult with allies and involve all OSCE members in these processes, these are all excuses and attempts to delay the process. When relations between Russia and NATO were being formed, no one consulted either the OSCE or the European Union, which is now actively offended through the mouth of Josep Borel that they were left behind,” Lavrov said.
According to him, Russia does not accept the West's thesis about the impossibility of limiting NATO membership, since it contradicts the principles of the OSCE.
