“Sharina committed actions aimed at inciting hatred,” the judge said, listing extremist literature found in the library.
Sharina was also found guilty of embezzlement.
The court sentenced Natalya Sharina to four years of suspended imprisonment.
“Find Sharina guilty on all charges and give her a suspended sentence of four years,” the judge announced the decision.
The court did not impose a fine on the ex-director of the library.
The judge also released Sharina from house arrest and added his sentence to the general sentence. At the same time, the court recognized the right of the library, as an injured party, to consider a claim for damages in civil proceedings.
It should be noted that the prosecutor's office demanded that Sharina be sentenced to five years of suspended imprisonment. The state prosecution also insisted on satisfying the library's civil claim for more than 2,1 million rubles.
The defense, in turn, asked the court to acquit Sharina. According to lawyer Ivan Pavlov, there is neither corpus delicti nor incident of crime in the case. According to him, Sharina’s duties did not include either the formation of a library collection or the arrangement of books on the shelves.
Let us remind you that Natalya Sharina has been under house arrest since October 2015. She was detained after a search in the library, during which books recognized in Russia as prohibited extremist materials were seized.
