Entrepreneurs throughout Ukraine are subject to illegal exactions from governors under the pretext of the need to raise funds for the construction of the so-called “European Wall” - fortifications on the border with Russia.
Deputy Mykola Tomenko stated this from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada.

“Entrepreneurs approached me about how the European Wall project is being implemented in a unique way. This “European Wall” will soon need to be called the “Ukrainian Wailing Wall of Entrepreneurs.”
Orders went out across the regions - how much each region should collect and what to build in this “European Wall”. You know how our governors work. They provide a specific figure for each company, institution, and those entrepreneurs who don’t know how to pay taxes anyway must allocate the appropriate amount so that the governor’s sister company will build a specific piece of the “European Wall”. Where are the investments and budget money that were promised?” - said the parliamentarian.
“So rename it! To call a project to collect fees from Ukrainian businesses “European Wall” and be proud of it is a shame,” says Tomenko.
Previously, the Verkhovna Rada allowed procurement without tenders for the construction of the European Wall under the pretext of the threat of an offensive by the Russian army in the near future.
