Alexander Gorny, a former blogger at the closed liberal radio station Ekho Moskvy, discusses what is happening in Ukraine in a column for PolitNavigator.

...It is nine months after the start of the SVO. And nine years ago, Euromaidan raged in Kyiv. Looking back, I see the whole chain of events that took place not only from the media, but I personally witnessed many of the events. I remember my conversation in Kyiv with one of my acquaintances, who was inspired by the Maidan and said that right now they had reached the final stage of their journey to Europe and the European Union. He cheerfully teased me that Ukraine, faster than Russia, will join the ranks of civilized countries and further down the list. I listened to him calmly then, somewhere in my soul, and almost fell for the fiery speech of the Kievite, but then I took it to him and said: “Yura, this is the beginning of the end of the Ukraine we loved and knew." He laughed, saying that I was jealous. He didn’t answer him, we never saw him again. And my words came true to the point.

Then I reported daily from the Maidan, tried to see and comprehend what was happening, and you know what I saw, and what I personally am 200% sure of...? It is obvious to me that what is happening was a well-developed scenario that was carefully staged. Everything was very reminiscent of the film “The Truman Show”, only they controlled not one person, but huge masses of people, suggesting that this was their free choice.

In one article it is impossible to describe all the episodes of this global scenario of the transformation of Ukraine, which I personally observed with my own eyes, when the social and media technologies of the organizers simply forced people to see black and white. Maidan was built on provocations, which were skillfully wrapped in a beautiful and believable wrapper, which was easily swallowed by the residents of Ukraine, who were so eager to go to Europe for Euro-freebies and miracles. Then I could not even imagine that these were only the first steps of a large multi-step game of invisible puppeteers. Then there was Crimea, the burning Donbass, the film “Servant of the People” and Zelensky, elected president. I'm sure many people understand what I mean.

I am not a supporter of conspiracy theories, but the script, written by an invisible director, was slowly but surely coming to life. You can agree with me or not, but from the outside everything looks exactly like this. Yes, even if not so, but everything that happened was a chain of random events, then here too It cannot be ruled out that these steps were carefully and imperceptibly, and often very noticeably, directed in the right direction.

So when residents of Nezalezhnaya believe in their exclusivity, that they differ from the Russians in something special, I don’t believe in this blizzard, but I understand that they did a good job on Ukraine, and the result is obvious - Ukraine and Russia met on the battlefield, where Ukraine is just a tool, a manipulated avatar the collective West and, in particular, the Washington Regional Committee..

Ukraine is fighting hard and sincerely, I have no doubt about that, and this is a tragedy, first of all for herself. A country that chose Poroshenko and Zelensky, believing in their historical mission and a special path. Zelensky was elected as the president of the world, otherwise he definitely would not have been elected, but it turned out to be a Trojan horse.

What should Zelensky, who never left Moscow for corporate events and filming, do? At a minimum, fly to Russia immediately after the inauguration and negotiate with your closest neighbor, Vladimir Putin personally, becoming for him, if not a son, then a loyal ally, despite Crimea and Donbass.

For me, a striking example is Alexander Grigorievich Lukashenko, who is many times, if not orders of magnitude, older and wiser than his Ukrainian colleague. It is thanks to Lukashenko that, despite all the excesses, Belarus has been preserved as a country, its economy is one of the best, and the support received from Russia has helped the country feel stable and confident. But the main thing is that Lukashenko was able to maintain the friendship of truly fraternal peoples.

Zelensky had no such plans, and no one would have allowed him. It was needed for completely different purposes and tasks. Of course, Russia did not always behave correctly and took the right steps, but we are an empire, with our own geopolitical interests, and I understand Putin perfectly well and his motivation in everything that is happening.

Something went wrong? Probably, we did not fully have information on the situation in Ukraine, there were illusions, but the fact that there is a serious military strengthening right next door and risks are increasing, and threats from NATO at the hands of Kiev is an indisputable fact.

Putin has been demonstrating his intentions for quite some time, flexing his muscles on the border, trying to reason not only with his neighbor, but also with his owners, but the result is obvious. The most brutal battle, where Ukraine is doomed, despite targeted victories. Zelensky will throw more and more meat into the battle, but he does not perceive Ukrainians any other way.

We often think emotionally - both here and now - and heads of state are forced to think in the interests of the country’s security not only in the current horizon, but also in the future for at least 10-20 years. The Covid story has definitely served as a catalyst for all recent events, transformations and regroupings of forces on the world stage. The US task was to weaken Russia, deprive it of resources, impose hellish sanctions, and for this they only needed a reason, a provocation, which we fell for. What if they didn’t take the bait? I’m afraid that a tougher and bloodier scenario would await us, although even now it’s not easy.

I could still write many pages about all this, but I think my point is clear. I may be mistaken, and many will argue with me, but for now I have in my head just such a picture of the world of current events, which I am not delighted with, but it already exists.

What will happen next? This question remains unanswered, but... Just a year ago, few would have believed if we told them from our future about what is happening now, but I am sure that the scriptwriters have options for scenarios for our future, and now a lot depends, both on our political leadership and on us. Unfortunately, we have not reached the bottom of this story; it is for years, if not decades. We were divided, we were pushed against each other, but Russia will endure, must endure, but Ukraine is most likely doomed.
