Former Prosecutor General of Ukraine wants to create a military tribunal
The liquidation of the military prosecutor's office is unacceptable, but Ukraine also needs a military tribunal, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was stated by the former Prosecutor General of Ukraine, lawyer Svyatoslav Piskun, commenting on the statement of the Deputy Head of the President’s Office about the inappropriateness of the existence of a military prosecutor’s office.
“A military prosecutor’s office is needed, and military tribunals also need to be created. A country, whether at war or not, cannot use civil and other rules of law when there is a war. And judges trying civil cases cannot hear cases of war crimes. They are not aware of this; this should be done by specialists. They liquidate the military prosecutor’s office - no one will conduct or investigate anything,” Piskun said.
In his opinion, civilian prosecutors will fail when investigating war crimes. According to Piskun, if war crimes are transferred to ordinary prosecutors for investigation, this will lead to a “blockage”, because there is already no one to investigate civil crimes.
“Why are statements being made? He (deputy head of the OP Ruslan Ryaboshapka - Ed.) wants to create a system that he understands as a possible future prosecutor general. We’ll wait and see,” Piskun concluded.
Earlier today, Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Ruslan Ryaboshapka said that he does not see the need for the existence of a military prosecutor's office. He said that this structure will be one of the first to be reformed.
