The former head of the CIA discovered several thousand Russian soldiers in Ukraine
The United States estimates that several thousand Russian troops are involved in the conflict in eastern Ukraine.
The former head of the CIA, American General David Petraeus, stated this in an interview with the Kyiv publication Novoye Vremya, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Thus, when asked by journalists to comment on the current volume of US military support for Ukraine, he noted that “this US aid budget is being formed jointly with NATO, whose support for Ukraine is systemic and constant.”
“We support the development of Ukrainian military capabilities against the threat of invasion by Russian-backed forces, where we estimate several thousand Russian soldiers are fighting,” Petraeus said.
He also called the provision of Javelin anti-tank systems to Ukraine by the Donald Trump administration a “positive step” and emphasized the importance of the Obama administration’s efforts to make this possible.
Petraeus headed the US Central Intelligence Agency in 2011-2012, during the presidency of Barack Obama, and previously commanded military operations in Haiti, Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan. Today he is a member of the management team of the KKR investment fund and is one of the key analysts of US military assistance programs.
Let us recall that the Senate of the US Congress yesterday approved the draft American military budget for the 2020 fiscal year (begins on October 1), which provides for the allocation of military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $300 million, including for the so-called lethal weapons.
