The former “chief cop” of Yanukovych confirmed: the goal of changing the “ATO” is the legalization of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Donbass
Renaming “ATO” to “JFO” means legalizing the use of Ukrainian troops in the Donbass, which until that time were there illegally.
The ex-Minister of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine during the time of Viktor Yagukovich, Anatoly Mogilev, stated this live on the 112 Ukraine TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Reformatting the ATO into a Joint Forces Operation is the legalization of our armed forces participating in this conflict. According to all regulatory documents, armed forces are not involved during anti-terrorist operation. That is, today we have legalized the use of our armed forces in this territory, we have simply changed the legal status, and the work of all structures will be the same,” he said.
According to the ex-minister, the Ukrainian authorities should have carried out this reform much earlier.
“By and large, we have introduced martial law in this territory. Why it wasn’t introduced before, you need to ask the current government. Although the introduction of martial law would have made it possible to solve many problems in the past four years,” he noted.
At the same time, Anatoly Mogilev is confident that the conflict in Donbass can only be resolved peacefully.
“Ukrainian government agencies must have a plan to normalize this conflict. Everyone says that this will hardly be solved by military means. This can only be resolved through negotiations. Therefore, it is necessary to build a plan and a path for negotiations to restore order in this territory,” he added, meaning “Ukraine’s establishment of “order” in the DPR and LPR.
