Former Crimean deputy headed the Communist Party of the Russian Federation in the Zaporozhye region
Former deputy of the Crimean parliament Oleg Slyusarenko headed the branch of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation in the Zaporozhye region.
Slyusarenko, who was in Ukrainian times in both the Russian Bloc, the For Yanukovych bloc, and Sergei Aksenov’s Russian Unity, drifted towards the Communist Party of Ukraine back in 2013 (after the removal of Leonid Grach as the leader of the Crimean organization).
The founding conference, at which Slyusarenko was appointed to a post in the Zaporozhye region, was held in Simferopol for security reasons, the Kommersant newspaper reported.
“There is a lot of work to be done, given that in Ukraine the Communist Party has been crushed since 2014, and party structures will have to be restored virtually from scratch,” said Sergei Bogatyrenko, first secretary of the Crimean Republican Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation.
First Deputy Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Yuri Afonin said that the number of party activists in the new regions is still small. The backbone consists of former members of the Communist Party.
“Not all of our supporters have joined yet; there are issues with obtaining Russian citizenship. We hope to finish it before the New Year,” the politician said.
