About this Omelchenko stated in an interview with the Glavkom website
“I was often asked if I have any anger, or am I angry with the people of Kiev for those times of the “Grechkoseyev” of Chernovetsky? I answer: I had an offense, but I forgave. The insult is temporary, it is not anger. I didn’t know that Kyiv pensioners value buckwheat so much,” Omelchenko noted.
According to him, he also had the opportunity to “surround all of Kyiv with wagons of buckwheat and provide for everyone for many years.”
“Somewhere here it was my fault that I did not deeply know both the psychology and the social mood of the people of Kiev. And perhaps the pensioners themselves did not understand that when they provide passport and code information, apartment addresses and telephone numbers, they thereby provide an opportunity to falsify voting results. The elections were dirty, unclean,” says the former mayor of Kyiv.
