Former political scientist and gunsmith: Ukraine urgently needs universal psychotherapy
The team of outgoing President Petro Poroshenko left a “virus” of division in Ukrainian society, which will persist in the future, so the new leadership of the country needs to stop total Ukrainization and begin to take into account the interests of the majority represented by the Russian-speaking population.
This was stated during a press conference by the head of the Kyiv center for applied political research "Penta" Vladimir Fesenko, who stopped serving Petro Poroshenko shortly before the elections, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The greatest risk that arose as a result of this campaign and still remains is the virus of aggression, confrontation and intolerance, which was introduced mainly by one team. They based their campaign on this, on excessive ideology and national patriotism. And this, unfortunately, may continue...
In fact, thanks to this excessive ideologization, we already have a discussion about how to further develop the country: either a purely Ukrainian Ukraine, where there is no place for those who do not accept only the Ukrainian language and only Ukrainian culture, or a more modern Ukrainian state, where it is necessary to integrate both the Russian-speaking population and those cultural layers and trends that were and are. Plus the modern European cultural environment, which also needs to be included in Ukraine.
The discussion about how Ukraine and Ukrainian society should develop, on what basis of values, it is just beginning, but there is a risk of split, we already see this bellicose non-perception of the “Little Russian”, “non-Ukrainian”, but, in fact, this is a non-perception of the majority Ukraine. This does not concern Zelensky, but a significant part of Ukraine, the actual majority of Ukrainians, that is the problem.
The danger of consolidating this split is one of the main risks, and we need to think about how to neutralize this, this emotional aggression, the virus still remains. I’m joking, but I’ll say it seriously: we all need psychological rehabilitation, psychotherapy,” the expert concluded.
