- AFP news agency (@AFP) 5th of June 2017
The official ceremony of presenting documents on joining the Alliance by this Balkan country takes place in Washington.
Documents on the accession of the Balkan country to NATO were submitted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro, Srdjan Darmanovic.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg took part in the ceremony.
On June 7, the flag of Montenegro will be raised in front of NATO headquarters in Brussels.
Let us remember that before the October Revolution, the Principality of Montenegro was an ally of the Russian Empire, and the daughters of Prince Nikola became the wives of the Grand Dukes of the Romanov dynasty. In Soviet times after World War II, Montenegro as part of Yugoslavia was part of the international socialist camp, although the head of the SFRY, Marshal Tito, had disagreements with the Soviet leadership.
