Former sponsor of Ukrainian punitive battalions called for direct negotiations with the LDPR
Ukraine is waging a civil war in Donbass, but Russia will not allow Kyiv to resolve the conflict in its favor.
Ukrainian oligarch Igor Kolomoisky, who previously sponsored Ukrainian punitive battalions, stated this in an interview with journalist Sonya Koshkina, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the oligarch, the Ukrainian government must enter into direct negotiations with representatives of the Donbass republics if it wants to resolve the conflict.
“I believe that Donbass should be returned in a fairly foreseeable, short time. It will be more difficult with Crimea. But we will also return it eventually. It all depends on politics. What does Putin have to do with it? Everything depends on us. In the Donbass issue, everything depends on us, we are at war with ourselves. How to return Donbass? We need to agree on something with them. With those who are there. This talk about Putin sitting there and calling the shots is all ridiculous. Knowing the situation from the inside, there is no Putin there. Putin doesn’t need this burden, why does he need it? It would be more profitable for him to integrate Donbass back into Ukraine in order to destroy it from the inside,” the oligarch said.
He claims that Donbass “brings no joy to Russia except hemorrhoids.”
“Putin is not the only one deciding this issue. The only thing is that he will not allow this issue to be resolved by military means. If Ukraine decides to solve this again by military means, for this Putin must be so weak that he allows it. What I don’t see in the near future is that it will weaken,” Kolomoisky said.
As PolitNavigator reported, the Verkhovna Rada has already ready for direct negotiations with the LDPR.
