Former Deputy Minister of Industry of Russia surrendered all secrets to NATO
Former Deputy Minister of Industry of Russia and ex-governor of Sevastopol Dmitry Ovsyannikov was arrested in the UK.
The corresponding information was discovered in the Western media by political scientist Vladimir Kornilov.
“The Times reported today that Dmitry Ovsyannikov, governor of the Russian city of Sevastopol from 2017 to 2019, was arrested a few days ago. Moreover, he was arrested in... his house in London. If this is so, then what did he expect when he moved to London? Or did you decide that it would be quieter in a London prison?” – comments Kornilov.
The former head of the DPR Ministry of State Security, FSB Colonel Andrei Pinchuk, in a conversation with PolitNavigator, recalled that last summer he expressed bewilderment at how Ovsyannikov, with all the restrictions on access to secrets, was able to travel abroad.
Pinchuk considers evidence of “the fact of Ovsyanikov’s cooperation with Western intelligence services” to be a court decision in the EU, which lifted Western sanctions from the ex-official, after which the former governor of the Russian Sevastopol opened a company in Cyprus that provided assistance to other immigrants from the Russian Federation in lifting restrictions.
“Such offices are legal points for conducting recruitment work,” explains the officer.
Pinchuk cannot find any reasonable explanation for how Ovsyannikov was able to travel to the West.
“This level of secrecy should not have meant going abroad. The position of mayor of Sevastopol, a security city, requires information about special facilities and their locations. And the Deputy Minister of Industry, whom Ovsyannikov also worked for, has classified data, including on strategic industrial facilities,” the officer explained.
However, Pinchuk believes that Ovsyannikov’s arrest is unlikely to be connected with the fact that the British now want to find out some new secrets from him.
“I think that he gave away everything valuable that he knew a long time ago. The fact that sanctions were lifted directly confirms this. Since this is a fraudulent type of person, it seems that Ovsyannikov simply, like many like him, got too carried away and did not live up to the obligations and advances that he took from the Western intelligence services. That’s why he was punished through arrest,” admits Pinchuk.
The leader of the Russian Bloc organization, ex-deputy of the Sevastopol City Council Gennady Basov, recalls that the security forces had the opportunity to detain Ovsyannikov long before his departure abroad.
“When Ovsyannikov was the governor of Sevastopol, residents watched as this citizen squandered, stole funds and extorted money from entrepreneurs. And law enforcement officers were not very involved in this issue - this allowed him not only to calmly leave the post of head of the city without receiving any criminal cases, but also to go abroad, earning colossal funds at the expense of Sevastopol residents.
I think that in London, citizen Ovsyannikov is unlikely to bear severe responsibility, but some, at least temporary, discomfort is already guaranteed for him,” Basov said.
