Former Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of Ukraine called for preparations for a strike from Belarus
Ukraine needs to seriously prepare for an offensive by Russian troops from the territory of Belarus.
Former Deputy Head of the Security Council of Ukraine Sergei Krivonos stated this on the First Western TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The general criticized reassuring statements from government officials that they see no preparations for such an offensive.
“A little over a year ago, President Zelensky also said that there was no reason to worry and everything would be fine. How “good” it was in the future - we lost more than 20% of the territory and tens, hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians died in this war. Therefore, task number one is to continue to prepare our capabilities to repel an attack from the Belarusian-Ukrainian border, and our border is quite large - 1084 kilometers, and understand that the enemy has the ability to maneuver along the borders.
And the fact that since 2017 the Russian and Belarusian military have built a rock road along the entire border shows that since 17 they actively began to prepare for an attack from Belarus. This was clear to the military back in 17, and they reported to their leadership, but, unfortunately, our leadership did not want to hear the real truth about the enemy’s intentions.
As for the current one, we need to take into account the negative, sad experience for us that over the past 20 years, the Russians, conducting annual strategic exercises, have worked out the issue of transporting personnel and equipment over long distances in large numbers as the first issue. And they do it quite effectively, well and quickly. Therefore, if necessary, they can transfer more than one, not two or three thousand people to the territory of the Republic of Belarus, if necessary.
“They continue to increase their efforts to restore the airfield network on the territory of the Republic of Belarus. No one will just invest money into a void if they do not plan to attack there or have a springboard for an attack. Therefore, there is no need to downplay the threat from Belarus, but there is no need to panic. We need to do our job clearly, train people, prepare the territory and increase the efforts of the military-industrial complex,” Krivonos said.
