Tsarev: Russia’s disconnection from SWIFT will hit Washington more than Moscow
The US threatens to cut off the Russian Federation from SWIFT and ban the purchase of debt on the secondary securities market, but these sanctions will hit the Americans themselves more than the Russians.
Former Verkhovna Rada deputy Oleg Tsarev said this on the YouTube channel “Sputnik in Russian,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The West threatens Russia with shutting down the SWIFT system, but Russia and China already have their own SWIFT. For example, now all Belarusian banks and some banks in the CIS have already connected to this system, this system is working. Yes, it will be unpleasant if it is turned off, but if this happens, payments in dollars will decrease; this is a sanction that will hit the United States more than Russia.
There are also threats to limit purchases of Russian securities on the secondary debt market. I talk to many economists, and they are perplexed. The Central Bank of Russia buys securities abroad, and the West pays us very low dividends, while we issue our debt obligations in approximately the same volumes and are forced to pay more than they pay us.
If this strange scheme is closed by US sanctions, we can only thank them,” said the former deputy.
He noted that after the departure of the United States, the entire post-Soviet space will remain with Russia.
“They all understand that the United States is leaving strategically, its influence is shrinking, and the influence of Turkey, Great Britain and the Russian Federation is growing. Other countries will take influence over those territories from which the United States leaves, and naturally, the post-Soviet space will remain with the Russian Federation,” Tsarev concluded.
