Tse Europe: Arrests of Russian activists continue in Latvia
Security police detained activist of the Headquarters for the Protection of Russian Schools in Latvia Ilya Kozyrev. Riga human rights activist Vladimir Linderman reported this on his Facebook page.
“His home was searched, he refused to give evidence, now he is being transported or has already been taken to the temporary detention center in Čiekurkalns. Ilya can be kept there for 48 hours, after which, presumably, the PB will seek his arrest in court,” Linderman wrote.
As PolitNavigator previously reported, Linderman himself was also detained on May 8 as part of a criminal trial in connection with the All-Latvian Parents' Meeting organized by the Russian Union of Latvia. He was released two weeks later but remains under investigation.
Another defender of the rights of Latvia’s Russian-speaking minority, Alexander Gaponenko, has been in a Riga prison for three months.
