Tsekov presented diplomas and “Nika” statuettes to correspondents of central Russian media who covered the events of the “Crimean Spring”.

The senator emphasized that he was pleasantly surprised by how, in general, the Russian media professionally covered the events in Crimea in the spring of this year.

“There is a great sense of satisfaction when information about Crimea is conveyed objectively. And I really like that this information may be conveyed in different words, by different media, but when you put it one on top of the other, you understand that overall it gives a very rich picture of what is happening in Crimea,” Tsekov noted.

The main topic of the “Senator's Lounge” with the participation of the senator was issues related to the integration of the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol into Russia, the transition period in Crimea, the first achievements of the new constituent entities of the Russian Federation, as well as current, not yet resolved problems. During the meeting with a member of the International Affairs Committee of the Upper House of Parliament, journalists managed to ask dozens of questions.

One of the issues was related to Crimea receiving gas from Ukraine.

“We have the opportunity to gasify Crimea 100% using our own gas, moreover, we will have gas that we could sell... We also produce oil. We can also fully provide ourselves with oil,” the senator said.

At the end of the event, Sergei Tsekov was awarded the Pushkin Medal of the Russian Academy of Literature.

The Pushkin Medal was awarded to such famous cultural figures as Ray Bradbury, Arthur Clarke, Mikhail Shemyakin, Sergei Mikhalkov, Yuri Bondarev and others.
