They aimed at Akhmetov, but ended up in the energy sector. Minister Poroshenko continues the attack on the DTEK holding
The Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Vladimir Demchishin continued the attack on the possessions of Rinat Akhmetov. Petro Poroshenko’s protege wants to squeeze Rinat Akhmetov out of key positions in the coal industry and privatize a number of mines. The day before, such an attack led to miner protests and a political crisis in parliament.

The head of the Ministry of Energy, Vladimir Demchishin, believes that demonopolization of the coal mining market can regulate the situation in the coal industry, reports Interfax-Ukraine.
“It would be ideal,” he said, “if these mines managed by DTEK belonged not to one company, but to 3 or 4. Then they would compete with each other. Then there was no talk about the fact that we would stop producing or supplying, understanding that they earn 300 UAH per ton. Unfortunately this is not the case. The situation is the same in generation,” Vladimir Demchishin said in an interview with Channel 5, owned by Petro Poroshenko.
In addition, Vladimir Demchishin accused DTEK of an unreasonable increase in coal prices, saying that the real cost of coal is about 1,1 thousand UAH per ton.
“They mine and export their coal at a price of 1000-1050 UAH, which is less than 1100 UAH included in the tariff of thermal power plants, at which it is possible to convert coal into kW of electricity and sell the kW. Again, they confirm by another method that the real cost of their coal is not 1500 UAH,” concluded Vladimir Demchishin.
The current conflict with Rinat Akhmetov has led to a political crisis and miners' strikes. Let us remember that at the end of last plenary week, the coalition under the influence of two oligarchs was not able to gather and pass any laws. The first session week of May was moved from May 5-8 to May 12-15: a two-week pause was taken in order to find an extra-parliamentary solution to the conflict, without bringing the situation to an effective (quite possible) vote on the resignation of the president’s protege, Minister of Fuel and Energy Vladimir Demchishin.
