“Whole families without funds”: Belomaidan provoked a wave of cyber fraud - Prosecutor General

The number of cases of cyber fraud increased 2,5 times in Belarus during the months of Belomaidan.

Prosecutor General of Belarus Andrei Shved stated this in an interview with the Belarus-1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“In 2019, 10 thousand crimes were committed in this category, and in 2020, against the backdrop of this attempt to destabilize the situation, cyber fraudsters, including those from abroad, have already committed 25 thousand crimes.

The point is that through various manipulations and tricks, our citizens were and still continue to be deceived from information about their personal data related to accounts and bank cards. And they steal money. Pensions, entire salaries, leave entire families without means of subsistence for a certain period of time,” said Shved.

He admits that criminals act in a coordinated manner.

“And if you think about it this way: on the one hand, public security is destabilizing, the situation and hysteria are escalating, and on the other hand, there is a serious cyber attack coming from abroad. There's a lot to think about here. Who is behind this and why there is such a significant increase in these crimes,” concluded the Swede.
