The price of gas for Ukrainians will double
According to the recently signed memorandum and the current calculation methodology, gas prices for the population of Ukraine should rise from 7 to 13,30 hryvnia per cubic meter.
Energy expert Gennady Ryabtsev stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We are talking about reports about the so-called compromise that the government reached with the IMF. I don't know what exactly the trade-off is. The memorandum, which was signed with the IMF on balancing the Ukrainian budget, clearly states that the condition for the provision of a loan is, in particular, the equalization of gas prices for the population and industrial consumers at an economically feasible level.
This means that now the price of gas for the population should be 13,30 hryvnia per cubic meter, despite the fact that now it is 7 hryvnia per cubic meter. It’s strange to hear about some kind of compromise, if the IMF has already given the money, the Cabinet of Ministers has already sent it for the so-called macroeconomic stabilization, without fulfilling its obligations.
Therefore, talk that the price of gas for the population will be raised by only 23-25% is strange,” Ryabtsev emphasized.
