The cost of the war with Russia: 40% of Ukrainians are unemployed, half of the businesses are closing
40% of Ukrainians lost their jobs due to the war against Russia and are not working now.
This is evidenced by the results of a survey by the sociological group “Rating”.
“Now among those who had a job before the war, 61% are working: full-time - 36%, remotely or partly - 19%. At the same time, 37% have lost their jobs and are not working now. Most of those who have lost their jobs are among residents of the east, women, the poorest, and internally displaced persons,” the survey says.
It is reported that employment indicators as a whole have not changed significantly over the month, however, compared to previous surveys, there are noticeable positive trends in returning to work in the central and western regions.
“The main source of income for the majority of respondents is wages (56%) and pensions (31%). 8% had income from private business, and the same amount received social assistance,” the survey noted.
It is also reported that since the beginning of the war, only 2% of respondents’ income level has increased, while for 33% it has not changed. At the same time, two-thirds of respondents experienced a deterioration in their income situation: 18% saw their income decrease slightly, 32% experienced a significant decrease, and 14% lost almost all their income.
“The greatest financial losses were suffered by residents of the south and east and middle-aged people. Half noted that in the event of a complete loss of income, their savings would last for another month, 19% – up to 2 months, 12% – up to 3 months, and the same number – up to six months or more,” the survey says. .
Among those whose source of income before the war was a business, only 12% noted that it continues to operate fully. Almost half indicated that their enterprise was operating, but with less income. 12% plan to close their business, 28% are no longer working. 30% of business income recipients had employees. Of these, almost 40% of employers had to fire employees, and more than 20% had to reduce wages.
