Ukrainian activists who came to the Maidan and shared its values, today began to abandon these very values.

This opinion was expressed in an interview with the Kyiv magazine “New Time” by the Ukrainian writer Sergei Zhadan, who actively supported the Maidan and the so-called ATO.
He says that most of the issues raised by the Maidan activists still require solutions, for which, according to him, politicians are to a large extent to blame.
“The positive future of our country can only be changed by civil society,” says the writer. Patriot is a vague concept. Everyone means something different by patriotism. At some point, public leaders were ousted by politicians who appropriated the revolution. But the leaders have not disappeared anywhere. They became activists, volunteered for the front, and today they work in one way or another,” the writer asserts.
“What’s sad is that some of those who came to Maidan and shared these values abandoned them. Moreover, the values themselves sound almost like swear words today. The word mutual understanding is perceived as synonymous with treason, the word dialogue is synonymous with capitulation, democracy is interpreted as collaboration and renunciation of one’s beliefs. And this is not only sad, but also dangerous,” Zhadan concludes.
