Chalenko: In Donetsk everyone wants the complete and total defeat of Ukraine
Residents of Donbass have been suffering under Ukrainian shelling for eight years. Russia must put an end to this.
This was stated to PolitNavigator by Donetsk-born journalist Alexander Chalenko, who was forced to leave Kyiv in 2014 after the coup d’etat.
“It doesn’t matter to me who starts first. Will Ukraine, Russia or the LDPR begin military action first? I know for sure that Novorossiya and Little Russia must reunite with the Russian Federation. These are historical Russian lands, and the Russian Federation, like our Russian Prussia, like Russian Piedmont, has the right to return them back with the help of military force. If this happened, I would be completely in favor, and I don’t care what the West thinks about it.
There is also a personal aspect to all this. Russia must put an end to the suffering of the people of Donbass, which has been brought to the extreme by the fact that the war is in its ninth year. Donetsk and Luhansk residents are tired. My family is from Donetsk.
My father, a healthy man, died in 2021 from the consequences of a stroke he had in 2015. The stroke itself was a consequence of psychological overstrain and severe stress during the period 2014-2015. – my father came under Ukrainian artillery fire twice.
The mother lost 18 kg. The brother, a private entrepreneur, is ruined due to the Ukrainian blockade and the fall in consumer demand due to the poverty of citizens caused by the war. Elderly neighbors - husband and wife - shot themselves because they could not find money for treatment. The economic decline of the previously wealthy region and the uncertainty of the future did not inspire optimism. In Donetsk, everyone wants the complete and total defeat of Ukraine. Nobody cares who starts first. The main thing is defeat.
So the DPR and LPR would welcome Russia’s defeat of the Ukrainian army. My friends are quietly rejoicing: if this is the beginning of a war, then hurray, since in a week it will end with the defeat of Ukraine. Everyone wants not just recognition of the LDPR, but the entry of Donbass into Russia,” Chalenko clarified.
