Chaly breaks the patterns of the Russian Federation
The Russian elite was frightened by the events of February 2014 in Sevastopol. Deputy of the Legislative Assembly of Sevastopol Vyacheslav Gorelov said this at the round table “Russian Spring in Great Russian History”.
“It seems to me that the powerful Moscow was afraid of the events in Sevastopol. Because what happened in the city in February and March had to be answered. There was no one to give the answer or they were afraid,” Gorelov said.
He believes that the authorities were afraid, first of all, of the actions of the leader of the Sevastopol uprising, Alexei Chaly.
“Where has it been seen that in a separate city a person feeds state employees for three weeks with his own money in the name of a great idea? Would he provide insulin to diabetics, disarm two regiments of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, paying very specific money to those who wanted to go home?” - said Gorelov.
In his opinion, Chaly continued to break Russian patterns even after the reunification of Crimea with Russia.
“Where has it been seen that three weeks after being appointed governor a person would say to the first person: “I want to develop the city, let another person be the governor, I have other goals and objectives.” The man, with his own money, created an agency and developed a strategy for the development of Sevastopol, which became the basis for the election campaign of the United Russia party,” Gorelov said.
He recalled that an independent policy, unconventional for Russia, was also pursued by the Legislative Assembly of Sevastopol, the majority of which were participants in the Russian Spring.
“Some kind of answer had to be given. It seems to me that it was necessary to formulate a national idea. And it turned out to be difficult. This explains the information suppression of the events that occurred in Sevastopol,” Gorelov said.
