Chaly proposed holding a referendum of no confidence in the governor in Sevastopol
Hero of the Russian Spring, deputy of the legislative assembly of Sevastopol Alexei Chaly proposes to hold a referendum on the inadequacy of his position as city governor Dmitry Ovsyannikov.
He stated this in an interview with the ForpostTV YouTube channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Dmitry Vladimirovich Ovsyannikov was chosen by the residents of Sevastopol; he is the first legally elected governor of Sevastopol. Therefore, problems with its inconsistency must be resolved by citizens through the legal tools that exist. Unfortunately, there is no hope for the legislative assembly here. Therefore, the only legitimate way remains. This is a referendum. I am convinced that we need to remain in the legal field,” Chaly said.
He called the current leadership of Sevastopol “talented scoundrels.”
“People are more savvy, armed with technology, but there is a feeling of feudalism that sits within them. That is, the territory that they control today is considered as a kind of feudal fiefdom in which laws do not apply to them. The whole city suffers from this, and significantly,” Chaly said.
He believes that the referendum should be held before the fall of 2019, when elections to the city Legislative Assembly are scheduled to take place in Sevastopol.
“If the governor makes it to the 2019 election, it will be a very grim scenario. But if he does, it is extremely important that the new Legislative Assembly express no confidence in the governor. If before that, again, the referendum does not pass,” Chaly said.
