Chaly spoke out against Russian Crimea
Ukraine demands that the international corporation Google not recognize Crimea as part of Russia on its maps, as the Russian State Duma previously insisted on this.
The corresponding letter to the company was sent by the Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States Valery Chaly, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Valery Chaly noted that the situation that has arisen with the incorrect image of Crimea on Google Maps is absolutely contrary to the clear and unchanged position of the US Administration, the US Congress and the UN.
In particular, in the Crimea Declaration, US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo noted that the United States will never recognize Russia’s attempt to annex Crimea. The ambassador also noted US President Donald Trump's continuation of the state of emergency, according to which sanctions are in force against the Russian Federation in connection with the occupation of Crimea.
The Ambassador also recalled that the UN in a number of General Assembly resolutions, in particular “Territorial integrity of Ukraine”, “The problem of militarization of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol (Ukraine), as well as parts of the Black and Azov Seas” and “The situation with human rights in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol, Ukraine, “which clearly define the status of Crimea as a territory of Ukraine,” the Ukrainian embassy in Washington said in a statement.
As PolitNavigator reported, earlier the Google Maps company listened to the claims expressed in the State Duma of the Russian Federation and began to designate Crimea as Russian territory for Internet users accessing the Network from the Russian Federation. For users from other countries, the designation of Crimea remains Ukrainian.
