Chaplyga: Association with the EU obliges Ukraine to accept migrants
According to the association agreement with the EU, if necessary, Ukraine will be obliged to host migrants, and for free.
Kiev political scientist Mikhail Chaplyga, a former employee of the office of the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, stated this on air on the Ukrlive channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“What Danilov said (Secretary of the Security Council criticized the proposal from the Bundestag to accept migrants by Kiev, - ed.) - this was an attempt by Zelensky to play for the positive for himself personally, because the people want to hear not so much bending to the West, but, finally, to show a strong hand, roughly speaking, but, as usual, it turned out to be a shot in the foot.
Because immediately after Danilov spoke, smart people who knew a little about the law came out and said - did you sign about the association? You. This means, according to the association agreement, you will accept them in any case - this is, firstly.
Second, did you sign the readmission agreement? You. Belarus unilaterally broke the readmission agreement, because of this it all started, but we didn’t break it.
Readmission means that if someone without documents is caught on the territory of any EU country, but any evidence is found on him - a ticket from a minibus, a bottle of Ukrainian beer, a pack of cigarettes with Ukrainian excise tax - this indicates that the person arrived from Ukraine. It’s not a problem to give them tickets from our minibus into their pockets, and we are obliged to take them back, and even for free,” said Chaplyga.
According to him, the agreement does not provide for the allocation of money to Kyiv from the EU.
“If there could still be talk here that they would give money, like for Afghans, then in the form of readmission it would be free. That's the whole picture. Danilov’s statement means nothing, it only spoiled relations with the West that were not the purest,” the expert added.
