A scandal is flaring up in Russian social networks around an open letter from writer German Sadulaev to rock musician Konstantin Kinchev. It is dedicated to the song “Sky of the Slavs,” written back in 2003, but Sadulayev only recently heard the composition in the car.

The writer saw in the expressions “we are being worn away by the seed of the horde” and “we are oppressed by the yoke of the Busurman” as signs of nationalism and an insult to Muslims and Mongols. In addition, writes Sadulayev, the song says: “From the shores of Chud to the icy Kolyma - all this is our land.” It is implied that this is the land of the Slavs, although Turkic and Finno-Ugric peoples also live in this territory.

Sadulaev believes that it was precisely because of his nationalism that Kinchev recently refused to go to Donbass for concerts.

“This is what I recently found out, Kostya. That you refused to go to Donbass and support Russkiy Mir. You didn’t go, but Kobzon did. Remember, you sang about “and everyone is Sid Vicious in the soul, but in reality Joseph Kobzon.” It was assumed that Kobzon was bad. Because he is “Soviet”. And Kobzon took it and went to Donbass. Probably because it's Soviet. But you didn't go. Because you are a racially pure Slav. I don't think you chickened out. It's like you've never been a coward. Rather, you felt that the Kiev junta was closer to you in blood. They also have the “sky of the Slavs” in their veins, and the signs of the “sun” on the sleeves of the “Aidar” battalion. And this “Russian World” is somehow non-Slavic. Some kind of racially unclean person,” wrote Sadulayev.

This publication caused a lively response in the Russian segment of social networks. Many famous Russian publicists responded to him. In particular, political scientist and publicist, president of the Institute of National Strategy Mikhail Remezov.

Sadulaev’s “attack” on the song “Sky of the Slavs” is a typical attempt to ban the positive self-identification of Russians... Every people has the right to say “We”. “Your “We” is too big, we feel cramped in his presence, so be silent,” is what they tell us in response... The “Seed of the Horde” and the “yoke of the Basurman” in the lyrics of the song that outraged the Eurasian writer are not hatred of “others” , but an indication of the key civilizational challenges for us: the demographic pressure of the South and the neo-colonialism of the West,” Remizov commented on his blog.

The past media scandal associated with Sadulaev was caused by his statement in a 2010 interview that the main problem in Chechnya is the sexual dissatisfaction of men caused by the impossibility of extramarital affairs. The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, reacted angrily to this.
