Chelyabinsk will become a test for the new party “For Truth” of the writer Zakhar Prilepin - the young political force is vying to enter the local legislative assembly. To do this, the Prilepinites will have to oust A Just Russia, which, led by State Duma deputy Valery Hartung, has a traditionally strong position here.
The intrigue is that both party projects are focused on a similar electorate, political scientist Oleg Bondarenko told PolitNavigator.
“The situation in Chelyabinsk is interesting because for the first time we will see a competition, a struggle between the parliamentary party “A Just Russia” and the party of the extra-parliamentary, but very active and loudly declared political force of Zakhar Prilepin “For Truth.” This will be a very interesting clash.
On the one hand, all these parties grew out of the Rodina overcoat of 2003, but, on the other hand, of course, a huge number of events have happened over 20 years, and the electorate has changed in some way,” Bondarenko recalled.
The expert noted that the experienced Hartung, who has been elected to the State Duma for several convocations, will become a serious competitor to Prilepin, but youth and energy play in the latter’s favor:

“The Chelyabinsk branch of A Just Russia is headed by Valery Gartung - a bright politician, of course, but apparently not a very convenient politician. They have repeatedly tried to oust him - in the Chelyabinsk region Sergei Shargunov ran for deputy in the single-mandate constituency of Hartung. Many people have made various attempts to oust him, and now the new party project “For Truth” is entering into competition with him.
On the one hand, both projects came out of the overcoat of the Rodina party, on the other hand, their electorates are similar, but not identical. The electorate of Hartung and A Just Russia are such intellectuals, but the electorate of Zakhar Prilepin can hardly be called such. But at the same time, both of them work in the left niche on the patriotic field, so they objectively overlap.

It will be very interesting to observe the results of this confrontation, taking into account the fact that Prilepin is a rather young, bright, active figure, still a public figure, but may become political in the near future.
Most importantly, there is a request for new faces. There is fatigue from old politicians, and now the most important thing is that Prilepin can implement this request, can meet this request. It is not enough for the leader of the federal party to be bright; he also needs to have equally bright local leaders.
