In 10 days, the Russian Orthodox Church may lose Moldova
Church-political intrigue may be behind the unexpected cancellation of Patriarch Kirill’s visit to Moldova, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This version was put forward on his telegram channel “Orthodox Politics” by the famous Orthodox conservative publicist Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin.
“Why was the Patriarch’s visit to Moldova cancelled? If it’s for health reasons, it’s excusable. However, just a couple of days ago, the first bishop of our Church seemed to be ready for the trip. I have the right to assume that intrigue could arise. Perhaps someone from the Moldovan clergy really does not want to see Patriarch Kirill in the country now. Now the Phanar and ecclesiastical Bucharest will begin to attack Moldova - and, probably, some people want to have their hands untied in case there is a desire to quickly run somewhere. In addition, Erdogan recently visited Comrat, and some local priests, after meeting with him, could suddenly decide that they really need the “Turkish coast” with Archond Pasha,” Chaplin wrote.
In his opinion, the “schemers” could try to intimidate Patriarch Kirill with protests, including “from people in robes and almost during worship.” And at the same time, launch the idea that “all Gagauz are traitors, and there is no point in going to them.”
However, according to Chaplin, it is unlikely that Metropolitan Vladimir of Chisinau and even the Moldovan government (which, according to Chaplin, could only slightly stimulate the protests) were involved in this intrigue.
“And this is what we have now. It is very likely that in Bucharest the two renovationist primates will announce another offensive in ten days - now against Moldova. And in Chisinau there is silence, which does not interfere with wandering through the vegetable gardens and talking about jars of jam and baskets of cookies for “surrendering Moscow.”
According to Vsevolod Chaplin, Patriarch Kirill could have the tools to influence the situation in Moldova and even in southern Ukraine.
“During the visit, it would be possible to meet with protesters (this is generally always the right move), and - most importantly - to visit monasteries such as Khynkovsky, where Patriarch Kirill would be received very well. Just like in Transnistria. What if you encourage people from Odessa to go there! And arrange a meeting with them at the border! But schemers don't need this. They would rather scare us with “consequences” - that is, the reaction of the enemies, who should rage if we succeed. When these enemies are happy or silent, it means we are doing something wrong,” he concluded.
