“As of 7 a.m. on April 11, in the exclusion zone and unconditional (mandatory) resettlement, units of the State Emergency Service, together with forest guard employees of the State Autonomous Okrug, continue to extinguish fires in the territory of Korogodskoye, Kotovskoye and Denisovetskoye forestries.

There is burning of grass flooring, reeds and forest litter in separate pockets,” reports the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Ukraine.

At the same time, the background radiation in Kiev and the Kiev region is noted to be within normal limits and not exceeding natural background values (Kiev - 0,013 mR / hour, Kiev region - within 0,011 mR / h. With an acceptable background of 0,05 mR / h) . In the exclusion zone and unconditional (mandatory) resettlement, the equivalent dose rate of gamma radiation has not changed (Chernobyl - 0,020 mR / h, at the Dityatki control post 0,01 mR / h. With a control permissible level of 0,055 mR / h.)

However, against the backdrop of dry data from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the ex-host of the Kyiv Anti-Maidan, journalist Yuri Kot published a NASA photo on his Telegram channel, which shows how the wind carries air from the fires to Kyiv.

“NASA published a photo from space of air from the fires in Chernobyl flowing to Kyiv. An excess of harmful substances in the air, including radioactive cesium-137, was recorded,” Kot said.

In turn, the Ukrainian nationalist, member of the extremist paramilitary group UNA-UNSO Nazar Prikhodko, spoke on his Facebook about the completely lamentable state of affairs.

“A terrible fire has been burning in the Chernobyl zone for the eighth day... And now I have a question: where are the 100500 posts about “Je suis...”? Where are the 100500 posts that animals are dying in the fire, which, by the way, has grown to 3,5 thousand hectares? There are bunnies, foxes... And not koalas, not kangaroos, not wallabies?

Where is the mass outrage that firefighters do NOT wear chemical protection suits, although in some places where fires are raging, background radiation is 16 times higher than normal? Look at the conditions the guys work in,” wrote an indignant nationalist.

“A unique video of a fire in the Chernobyl zone, which has been extinguished for the seventh day and cannot be extinguished. It was taken from the cab of a fire truck. I apologize to the aesthetes for the profanity behind the scenes, but if I were in the firemen’s shoes, I wouldn’t speak out like that if I were in such a situation...

Let me remind you: in some places of the fire, background radiation exceeds the norm by 16 times, but do firefighters have the necessary personal protection...?” – Prikhodko commented on the video published the day before.

The nationalist also complained that among his “famous and significant acquaintances,” almost no one besides him talks about this topic.

“What is it?” Is it okay that this is the Chernobyl ZONE? Radiation, danger to people, threat to National Security? Is it okay that the fire is three kilometers from the Chernobyl nuclear power plant (it got close to Chernobyl-2 and Chistogalovka)?

And almost silence... It's a shame. I hope my post will somewhat correct the situation and attract the attention of wider society to this disaster. Thank you for your attention!" – wrote Nazar Prikhodko.

In addition, Radio Liberty published a video of the disaster from above.

“The high level of radiation makes it difficult to extinguish the fire. According to the Ukrainian Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety, background values in Kyiv and its surroundings remain normal. Rescuers urge citizens of Ukraine not to provoke fires in natural ecosystems, because this harms both nature and human health,” the publication commented on the video.

Denis Vishnevsky, head of the flora and fauna ecology department of the Chernobyl Radiation-Ecological Biosphere Reserve, also published a photo of huge clouds of smoke on his Facebook page.

“This is not at all romantic. The base of the scientific department is exactly one kilometer from here. And yes – World of Warships,” Vishnevsky described one of the photographs.
