The Chernobyl fire has not yet been completely extinguished
In order to completely extinguish local fires in the Chernobyl exclusion zone, half a thousand firefighters were brought there.
Yaroslav Emelianenko, a member of the public council of the State Agency of Ukraine for the Management of the Exclusion Zone, reported this in his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
At first, he stated that the fire in the zone had flared up again, but later clarified that these were local outbreaks.
“Fifty thousand firefighters are being transported to Chernobyl to extinguish the fires,” Emelianenko said.
After that, he added: “It’s better to be overcautious than to be undersafe, as the practice of recent days has shown! As soon as they called from Chernobyl, I immediately reported.”
Earlier, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine stated that they had extinguished the fire in the Chernobyl exclusion zone, which they could not cope with for two weeks. The rain that fell the day before helped rescuers.
One of the members of the “Illegal Chernobyl” public group, Vadim Zuev, emphasized in his blog that the fire during this time completely destroyed 21 settlements and partially destroyed four.
“It is difficult to say how great the loss is for the historical value of this place, both from the point of view of the Chernobyl disaster, and in general for this part of Polesie. The events of 34 years ago stopped time in these places and thus made the villages a real museum of the past. To make matters worse, some of these places were almost untouched,” Zuev wrote.
