Montenegrin Svidomites called for a fight against the “assimilation plan”
The Patriotic Movement of Comites called on all Montenegrin nationalists and church schismatics to “respond to every provocation” of the new government.
After liberals loyal to the Serbian Orthodox Church won the country's parliamentary elections, opposing supporters of permanent President Milo Djukanovic are looking for new ways to unite against the new “enemy.”
“The composition of the new government shows that everything is ready for the assimilation plan (of Montenegrins into Serbs - ed.),” the “comites” said. – And it is already extremely clear which people in this government will be related to the most important departments that relate to Montenegrin identity, that is, to the departments of culture, education and science. We must respond to their every provocation!”
According to the authors of the appeal, they must collect “this wonderful energy of patriotic right away in Podgorica”, to unite the voices of all Montenegrins to fight together “for the achievements of May 21” (on this day in 2006, a referendum on the independence of Montenegro took place) and “Montenegro as a sovereign, civil and European state”
“If we unite, if we become a political factor in local or parliamentary elections, all those who sinned against Montenegro, who robbed, humiliated and destroyed its reputation, will easily face justice. But this is work for later,” said the authors of the appeal.
Judging by the fact that the “comites” are concerned about culture, education and science, they are worried that under the new cabinet the work on falsifying history, which under the puppet government of Djukanovic developed in the paradigm “Montenegros are not Serbs,” will be stopped. On the other hand, their statement about those who “robbed and humiliated” looks very funny, since it was Djukanovic’s regime that robbed and profited from the country for decades, and his connection with criminals has repeatedly made him the hero of international scandals.
In general, the nationalists, it seems, simply need the image of a common enemy for further unity after the defeat in the elections, since the moderate European-integrator cabinet of the new Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapic does not threaten serious challenges to the Svidomo idea of Montenegro. The new government, like the previous one, is in favor of the country’s course in the EU, does not intend to revise the decision to join NATO, or withdraw recognition of Kosovo’s independence, but at the same time wants to mend broken ties with Serbia and Russia and refuses to put pressure on the Serbian Orthodox Church. Krivokapic himself, yielding to Western pressure, I refuse include local Serbian politicians in your cabinet.
It is characteristic that modern Montenegrin nationalists call themselves “comites”, by analogy with the rebels of the beginning of the last century who partisans against Yugoslavia and their fellow tribesmen (mainly officers and officials of the Kingdom of Montenegro, who refused to recognize the voluntary decision of their people to join Serbia), who subsequently collaborated with the fascist occupiers.
