Montenegrin military supported protests against the regime
Representatives of new professional communities spoke out against the Montenegrin law “On Freedom of Religion and Belief and the Legal Status of Religious Communities” adopted by the regime of Milo Djukanovic, which discriminates against the Serbian Orthodox Church.
Balkan media reported this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Several hundred lawyers in Montenegro signed the proclamation “Lawyers defend law and justice” in protest against the adoption of the Law on Freedom of Religion. Lawyers in the proclamation note that 301 signatures were collected in two days, and this list is not final.
“We believe that it is necessary to stand up in a professionally responsible and moral manner against this clearly unconstitutional and systemic law against the rule of law, which discriminates against the property of religious communities in the grossest way and violates the elementary rules of civil law,” the Montenegrin lawyers said in the proclamation.
At the same time, an appeal in defense of the Serbian Orthodox Church and against the discriminatory law was signed by 123 military personnel, both active and retired, of the Montenegrin army. Characteristically, among the military this issue was supervised by the head of the trade union of retired military men, Zdravko Kasalica, who the night before arrested together with his lawyer wife Macedonian Kasalica, who defended citizens who suffered from the regime of Milo Djukanovic.
“We express our full support for the Serbian Orthodox Church in preserving historical, canonical continuity, the sovereign right to property and the integrity of the priesthood, and also condemn any form of discrimination, selective application of rights, the use of legal and physical violence against the integrity of our shrines, all types of pressure on believers,” stated in the appeal of the Montenegrin military. “We stand for equal freedom of religion for all religious communities, against interference by executive authorities in religious life, which does not correspond to a secular state and civilizational values.”
We would like to remind you that earlier similar appeals have signed doctors, teachers, journalists and students of Montenegro.
