The Montenegrin metropolitan called for voting against those who pass anti-church laws
In connection with the ongoing attempts of the Montenegrin regime to present the Serbian Orthodox Church as its political enemy, Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and Littoral stated that the church will remain out of politics.
At the same time, the Bishop, in a special address to his faithful children, gave advice on who to vote for in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Parliamentary elections in Montenegro will probably be held on August 30, unless the COVID-19 epidemic makes adjustments to their holding.
“False and malicious statements by officials of the [ruling] Democratic Party of Socialists about the alleged “participation of the Church in the elections” and their supposed “victory over the SOC” are designed to drag the Church into the party’s election campaign,” wrote Metropolitan Amfilohiy. “We do not engage in controversy or react to shameless attacks and comments aimed at including the church in a political campaign...
Our struggle to change the unacceptable provisions of the law “On Freedom of Religion,” as before, implies all permissible and civilized means for the sake of the final victory of Christ. Thus, as always, we inaccessibly testify that the Church does not and will not have a place, regardless of the desires and intentions of unscrupulous figures, in party conferences and campaigns.”
At the same time, the bishop noted that recently, through social networks and other means, misinformation has been spreading about certain electoral blocs that have the support and blessing of the SOC.
“In this regard, we repeat and emphasize that not a single electoral bloc is formed with the blessing of the church, and no one has the right to refer to it publicly. The Church, for its part, calls on all citizens of Montenegro to come to the elections of deputies of the Assembly and elect those who will not accept lawless and anti-church laws in your name,” said the Metropolitan of Montenegro and Primorsky.
