The Montenegrin opposition alliance will leave the country in NATO and continue its path to the EU
The leaders of the three opposition Montenegrin election blocs “For the Future of Montenegro”, “Peace is Our Nation” and “From Black to White” signed an agreement on the formation of an election coalition.
Zdravko Krivokapic, Aleksa Becic and Dritan Abazovic stated that they do not accept revanchism in any form, and therefore intend to simply bring existing laws into line with democratic standards.
As a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, the formation of a government in Montenegro by a pro-Serbian coalition is now a resolved issue. On the other hand, in the current geopolitical situation in the Western Balkans, one should not expect a sharp change in the course of the Montenegrin state from such a government; it will be enough that, as its leaders previously promised, it will stop persecuting the SOC and restore damaged relations with Serbia and Russia.
However, according to the agreement signed by Krivokapic, Becic and Abazovic, the new government will not initiate any initiatives or procedures aimed at changing the national flag, coat of arms and anthem. The document states that the new democratic government of Montenegro will responsibly fulfill the international obligations previously undertaken by the Montenegrin state, “strengthen and improve cooperation with NATO and quickly, fully and purposefully carry out all reforms necessary for Montenegro’s full membership in the EU.”
“The new democratic government will completely depoliticize key government institutions to ensure an uncompromising fight against crime and corruption,” the agreement says. “Will not initiate a procedure to revoke recognition of Kosovo’s independence.”
