SBU Colonel Yulia Laputina said this at a round table held in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, answering the question about the role of the church in the formation of anti-NATO sentiments in the eastern regions of Ukraine.
“Everyone knows that in the Svyatogorsk Lavra there are such books that if you read them, your hair will stand on end - there is anti-NATO and anti-EU in there,” the SBU officer was horrified. – We had an example: I don’t have it with me now, but I have an icon... they change the texts of the prayers to pro-Russian ones. Work is, of course, underway. The religious issue is very sensitive, here you can’t just use the criminal code, you need to do serious information campaigns among parishioners.”
“For example, in Slavyansk there is a powerful role of Protestant communities, which have completely different values in their ideological orientation, and young people are more likely to join Protestant communities and move away from the Russian patriarchy,” says Laputina. – I see that there must be interaction between civil society and certainly the Ministry of Information Policy, since we will not get results with punitive methods. We also need to create communication platforms that will shape our policy for 20 years, that is, for young people.”
As PolitNavigator reported, the Verkhovna Rada preparing to legalize mass seizures churches of the Moscow Patriarchate.
