Political scientist Denis Denisov stated this in a commentary to PolitNavigator. And the very fact of the telephone conversation and its agenda give hope for a speedy resolution of the crisis in Donbass.
“This is a very symbolic event and in this regard it once again confirms that the DPR and LPR should be treated with complete seriousness, namely as independent states. In this regard, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin sent a bright, clear signal to all those people who believed and believe that this is not so. The topic related to their conversation is more than relevant at the moment, and one can only welcome the trends towards a positive resolution of the hostage issue,” the expert said.
“Naturally, we understand that these 14 months that preceded the possible exchange occurred solely through the fault of the Ukrainian side. As we know, a number of people who participated in the Russian Spring, who spoke out for their rights, were simply convicted of criminal charges, and now the Ukrainian side says that, according to its own legislation, it simply cannot exchange everyone for everyone. The most important thing is that the trends are absolutely clear, clear on the part of the Russian Federation and on the part of the Donbass republics. They are aimed at resolving this problem. Accordingly, the more such tactical issues are resolved, the closer the residents of Donbass will be to peace,” Denisov believes.
