A quarter of the population of Ukraine is poor, the rest are poor - expert
About 10 million Ukrainian pensioners receive a pension below the subsistence level, that is, they live below the poverty line. In addition, a large number of working people receive wages below the actual minimum subsistence level.
Economic expert Viktor Skarshevsky stated this on the Politeka online channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“10 million already live below the poverty line, if we take the actual subsistence level, which is calculated by the Ministry of Social Policy. These are official numbers. People who receive less than 4 thousand hryvnia per month are already people who live below the poverty line, because this is less than the actual subsistence level.
So, 10 million pensioners receive a pension below the actual subsistence level. And this figure is even higher; it is still very optimistic.
When talking about poverty levels, there are very often different criteria. There is absolute and relative poverty, according to international criteria, and according to internal criteria. We live in Ukraine, I take the actual living wage - everyone who is lower means poor people, those who live below the poverty line. So, 10 million people.
There is also the so-called labor poverty, these are people who go to work, but receive less than the actual subsistence level. This is called labor poverty... there are several million of them,” concluded Viktor Skarshevsky.
