Yanukovych's official accused Russia of betrayal, forgetting about her own sin
Russia allegedly betrayed Donbass by not recognizing it as its territory after the 2014 referendum following the example of Crimea.
This was stated on the air of the 112 Ukraine TV channel by the former Minister of Justice of Ukraine during the times of Viktor Yanukovych, Elena Lukash, who has recently become active in the media, and is now considered close to another ex-“regional” - lawyer Andrei Portnov, reports the PolitNavigator correspondent.
“I suspect that Russia only wanted Crimea, and Donbass was deceived by Russia. I’m from there, I called people at the time of that action called the referendum in Donbass, and they were all sure that they would end up in Russia in the same way. They were most afraid of what they saw on the Maidan. And they saw how they stood and burned golden eagles, gouged out their eyes, and killed people. And the events of May 2 in Odessa finally closed most of the hearts. They saw that Khatyn, and did not want such a repetition. Nobody spoke to them. On the contrary, it was beneficial for the new government to break away from territories that would never support them electorally,” she said.
At the same time, in another interview, Elena Lukash admitted that she personally took part in the preparation of Ukraine for the signing of an association agreement with the European Union, which led to a coup in the country and the subsequent civil war.
“Unfortunately, I did not have time to feel like the Minister of Justice, because my tenure lasted a little more than six months. Of these, for three months I was almost daily engaged in preparing the country for the signing of the association agreement, and the next three months I threw out of my life, from my personal practical activities, because the Maidan was raging and I sat in negotiations, working groups and other conciliation procedures with those who represented the Maidan. So if you asked if I did everything I wanted, no. Unfortunately, I didn’t have such an opportunity,” the ex-official told the Politeka YouTube channel.
