Smolny officials have not solved the problem of metro construction workers’ wages
Employees of the bankrupt company OJSC Metrostroy have been standing near the walls of Smolny since 11 am. They demand payment of a month and a half of arrears of wages and compensation for vacation pay, that is, the return of the money that the employer owes them.
One of the protesters, Andrei Muzalevsky, assesses Smolny’s ignorance as a demonstration of the authorities’ disregard for people. The participants of the action had the hope that the city governor Alexander Beglov would talk to them personally.
“Yes, there was hope that the immediate leader of our city would come out and deal with this,” Muzalevsky noted.
However, people continue to stand in the cold while officials openly ignore them. The rally participants are ready to continue to fight for their rights. If the authorities do not enter into dialogue with them, the employees of the bankrupt company plan to appeal higher, perhaps even to Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Metrostroy organization owes money to 3700 employees.
