Officials are confused about where to build a bridge across Sevastopol Bay
The Scientific and Technical Council of the Federal Road Agency of Russia made a decision on the routing and corridor of the transport crossing across the Sevastopol Bay.
This was reported by the press service of the government of Sevastopol with reference to Governor Dmitry Ovsyannikov, a Politnavigator correspondent reports.
It is reported that the shores of the bay will be connected by a bridge, not a tunnel. True, where exactly is not entirely clear.
“According to the conclusions of the scientific and technical council, the most preferable is the construction of a cable-stayed bridge from Bogdanova Street in the area of the grain terminal on the North side with access in the central part to the reconstructed Bagria Street in the area of 1472 naval clinical hospital,” Ovsyannikov said.
The problem is that Bagria Street ends about 10 kilometers from the shore of Sevastopol Bay and the naval hospital.
The governor gave another guideline, but this did not make the bridge layout any clearer.
“The bridge will be integrated into the future Heracles road, which we are designing from Kamysovo Shosse to Brestskaya Street and through the overpass over the railway tracks to the Engineering Beam. In fact, this is a new transport artery that will relieve congestion in the city center,” Ovsyannikov said.
Brestskaya Street continues Bagria Street, but also does not reach either the hospital or the shore of the bay, and Engineering Beam is located on the other side of the bay, and where the overpass will go is not entirely clear.
Ovsyannikov and many members of his government are natives of Udmurtia. It is believed that Sevastopol for the governor and the team is just a springboard for a career jump to Moscow. Perhaps that is why officials often do not bother with local toponymy.
Sevastopol journalists constantly catch the government press service making mistakes like “Belek” instead of “Belbek”, st. Aivazovskaya instead of Aivazovsky, Soliris center instead of Solaris.
The visiting officials did not even bother to learn the exact dates of the two heroic defenses of Sevastopol, which is perceived by many as disrespect for the history of the city.
After justification of the cost, the bridge project will be proposed for inclusion in the Federal Target Program “Socio-economic development of the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol until 2022.”
According to the preliminary design, the 935-meter-long bridge will have 4 lanes for traffic with a maximum permitted speed of 70 km/h. It is also planned to create pedestrian and bicycle paths.
