“Even the results of independent foreign opinion polls confirmed that the absolute majority of Russians and Ukrainians living in Crimea support reunification with Russia. As for the Crimean Tatars, at the time of the referendum only 17 percent of them came to vote for reunification, and now sociological surveys show that 43 percent of the Crimean Tatars believe that the best development conditions for them will be created in the Russian Federation.
Over the 20 years that Crimean Tatars have lived in Ukraine, this country has done nothing for them. The first steps of the Russian state towards the residents of Crimea are the law on the rehabilitation of repressed peoples, the declaration of the Crimean Tatar language (along with Russian and Ukrainian) as one of the three state languages of the peninsula, the establishment of national and religious holidays of Muslims as days off and the adoption of specific effective decisions on the most sensitive issues. (construction of housing, social infrastructure) - influenced the opinion of those who previously looked towards Russia with doubt. Now it is obvious to everyone that Russian Crimea is serious and forever. And we must learn to interact with the Russian authorities. Well, in the light of recent events, attempted terrorist attacks by Ukraine, her image has finally faded in the eyes of all sensible people,” the official said.
“It is extremely difficult to instantly win the sympathy of an entire people. The work of government bodies, including regional ones, the effective implementation of those laws, instructions, decrees that were adopted at the state level - this is what the Crimean Tatars expect. It is clear that this is not a quick process; the implementation of some projects requires changes in legislation, careful preparation of design and estimate documentation for construction projects, etc. Need time. But already now about a hundred important social facilities are being built: schools, kindergartens, power lines, water supply, and finally, the restoration of cultural heritage sites has begun,” Barinov added.
