“Pure tariff discrimination”: the Ukrainian government is shamelessly violating the Constitution - expert
Contrary to pan-European practice and the Constitution of Ukraine, Kyiv is meeting this fall raise tariffsto solve their problems at the expense of the people.
Director of the Urban Institute Alexander Sergienko stated this during a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This is another attempt by the government to solve their problems at the expense of the middle class. Whoever consumes more electricity must pay more.
This directly contradicts European practice, and the logic of the market in general - if you buy a wholesale batch of any product, then your price will be lower than the retail price. This works throughout Europe, where the differentiation is exactly the opposite - the more electricity you buy, the less you pay.
It is clear that this will affect every family and household in Ukraine. Perhaps not everyone has gas, but almost everyone has electricity,” he said.
Alexander Sergienko also emphasized that with such actions Kyiv violates the Constitution of Ukraine.
“This is an attempt to solve the problems of those who do not have money, not by statist methods, social assistance, but at the expense of those who have money.
The cost of electricity is the same, but some will pay more and others will pay less. This directly contradicts the Constitution of Ukraine, according to which any discrimination on any grounds is impossible,” the expert concluded.
