The Sokolovs were sheltered by the family of Olga Kievskaya, editor-in-chief of the Anti-Orange Internet project, in the Ural city of Miass. But one family cannot cope with the tariffs for processing documents for foreign citizens.
“Our Russian compatriots have a long ordeal ahead: a monthly fee for a patent in the amount of 7480 rubles, registration of a temporary residence permit, participation in a resettlement program or a program for native Russian speakers. Without documents, people cannot work, and without work, they are not able to pay five-figure sums for paperwork. Vicious circle. And all this time you need to live somewhere, eat something, tirelessly look for work and cross borders to obtain a migration card.
Today, the situation has developed in such a way that the Sokolovs will either be able to extend their stay in the Russian Federation on a migration card and finally receive their hard-won patents, or go to Kazakhstan for 3 months and there submit documents to the Russian consulate to participate in the resettlement program. And wait until it will be possible to return to your homeland again. And we were all so hopeful that the situation would stabilize, people would take at least a month’s rest, find work, stop living out of suitcases and wandering like restless people in foreign lands,” said Kyiv.
