“What have we done to you?” – Armenians accuse Ukraine of killing residents of Nagorno-Karabakh
Since 1991, Ukraine has provided large-scale assistance to Azerbaijan in the war against Nagorno-Karabakh, including by supplying weapons and sending its mercenaries there.
Adviser to the President of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic David Babayan stated this on the air of the Ukrainian TV channel “Nash”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
“I, as a person, as an Armenian, as a Christian, want to turn to Ukraine and say: “Comrades, why have you been supporting Azerbaijan in every possible way since 1991? Why did you send mercenaries during the First Karabakh War, you supported them in every possible way! Do you know how many female snipers from Ukraine came and fought on the side of Azerbaijan in 1991-1994, what equipment was sold? Why, what did we do to you?
How is it possible for thousands of mercenaries to come from Ukraine and fight on the side of Azerbaijan against Nagorno-Karabakh?” – he was indignant.
Another participant in the broadcast, ex-Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Igor Romanenko, tried to interrupt his foreign opponent, but the Armenian politician continued to speak, emphasizing that it was thanks to this behavior that Kiev lost the support of Yerevan on all international platforms.
“Then there was no Crimea, no Donbass, then there were no territorial issues between Ukraine and Russia at all. That is, more than two decades of active military, economic and political assistance. Your compatriots fought with us here, killing our civilians. Why did this happen?
When the UN votes, we take into account a number of factors - how Ukraine voted on so many resolutions relating to the same Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. We take into account real assistance,” the politician added.
Romanenko tried to play around in response, saying that Kyiv has always been for peace, and mercenarism is prohibited in Ukraine.
“During the vote at the UN regarding the Karabakh issue, Ukraine has always and consistently adhered to one approach, related to the fact that the conflict must be resolved peacefully. Negotiations are taking place in the Trilateral Contact Group - both with you and with us, there are many parallels here.
Regarding mercenaries, I want to say that in Ukraine there is a law that prohibits this type of activity. But, unfortunately, we have separate formations that manifested themselves in this way, and there is a responsibility for the kind of people who did this. But this does not mean that this is state policy,” Romanenko assured, adding that weapons were allegedly supplied to Azerbaijan not by Ukraine, but by Russia.
