“What else can we do? Why aren’t we in NATO yet?” – Zelensky bends to the Americans
During a personal meeting with US President Joe Biden, he should ask the question why Ukraine is not being accepted into NATO.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky stated this in an interview with the HBO program Axios, answering the question of what he expects from the United States.
“We are grateful for everything, but Ukraine does not just verbally say that it wants to be an equal member of the Alliance, an equal member of NATO, because this is one of the most important points of security - the security that President Biden is talking about.
How is it necessary to declare even more about the desire to join, if this is enshrined in the Constitution of Ukraine - direction to the European Union, European integration, as well as joining NATO? Therefore, I have a very simple question: why is Ukraine still not in NATO? If without these phrases we would all think, we would communicate, for me the first question would sound like this: “Mr. President, why are we still not in NATO?” says the head of Ukraine.
Zelensky also said what kind of response from Biden he would like to hear.
“I believe that the answer may sound like this: “Mr. President, we feel Ukraine as a strategic partner. We understand that Ukraine today actually has a powerful army in Europe and protects not only Ukrainian citizens, but also European ones in the east of the country. Therefore, under my tenure, Ukraine should be in NATO.” Or there will be a different answer, but I would like it to be very honest,” Zelensky concluded.
