Something is brewing: Serbia has closed its embassy in Kyiv for security reasons
The Serbian Embassy in Kyiv announced a temporary closure for security reasons, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports. Diplomats also recommend that Serbian citizens refrain from traveling to Ukraine. At the same time, there are reports that China, Egypt, Kazakhstan and some other countries have also called on their citizens to leave Ukraine.
“The Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Ukraine is temporarily closed in order to protect the safety of its personnel,” the press service of the diplomatic institution said in a statement.
Serbian Embassy employees will continue to work from Belgrade until the conditions for their return to Ukraine are met, the diplomatic mission noted.
As PolitNavigator reported, Serbia refused to recognize the results of referendums in four former regions of Ukraine and their annexation to Russia. Belgrade assumes that Kyiv may recognize Kosovo's independence in response.
